Jeremy Clarkson made that comment and mentioned Kiera Knightly as the female lead.

So many of these cars are bought as investments or to show and win a specific trophy and are never driven.  Has their value been hurt?  Many items such as cars, watches, collectible art, wine and cigars are bought as investments or to simply own them.  You see stories all the time of people buying a Pebble Beach winning car and it disappears into a collection for 25 years.  Or art that hasn't been seen or displayed in 50 years.  If a watch isn't worn because it's too valuable does it lose value?  If a Van Gogh isn't put on the wall does the collectability and rarity disappear?  If you can't drink an exceptionally rare wine or smoke JFK's cigars do they remain collectible?  I'd say yes.  The value of something isn't always totally dependent on it being used as intended when it was created.  Automobiles are routinely displayed as art ...

You just may, Rob, but the problem will be that you would not be allowed to drive it!

Which kind of begs another question - regardless of which car is, or you *think* is, the most valuable (I'm thinking 250 GTOs, E-Types, McLaren F1s, or any other hyper-$$$ car, like the art-deco cars of the 20's/30's...), will their value be destroyed when/if fuel becomes non-existent, or if their use on public roads is legislated away?

I just wish I could live long enough to see the 250 GTO prices fall back down to $10,000!
