Unofficially?  Glad you are on my side.

And officially, I only put PowerPoint presentations together...

“Knowing better” has no affect when in the throes of competition.   Interpretation is in the mind of the crafty.  If it’s not explicitly excluded by the rules (yet), exploit the rules with the technology in front of you.   My heroes in F1 have always been the engineers (Terrell, Murray, Brawn, Newey, etc).  If this is true, this is precisely the guile that makes F1 fascinating (for me).  And, it doesn’t happen enough.  Level playing fields are for the addled.  Want a driver’s series? watch Indy cars.

For the same reasons, I’m thankful people like our own Dr. E are on my side in the field of Weapons technology.

Charles/Clyde,

I agree with Clyde's statement that Ferrari knows better than to cheat (and for the reason - McLaren - stated).  But, while I admittedly am not well-versed on the technical regs, I can't help but wonder if this is another instance where a team thinks they have found a competitive advantage not addressed in the regs, a la blown diffusers and "fiddle brakes", etc.????

Just a thought....

Thanks - I do think it will be interesting to see how this plays out.  Like Charles, I found the very notion to be intriguing - something my simple brain would never have conceived of (which I guess is why I'm not an F1 engineer!).  😉

Got this from a private group but hadn't heard anything about it. Very intriguing. Anyone know anything more?

As the week begins there are some updates in the F1 world. Read an article that 3 teams that have filed a protest against Ferrari. The protest relates to where Ferrari has found all the HP they?re making.
I had this discussion with xxxx,  earlier in the season about Shell engineers being trackside on race weekends taking samples of oil from the Ferrari engine. Remember last year the car was continually trailing smoke from the tailpipe.
The suspicion was, Shell was adding some volatile additives that were being plumbed via the EGR system, into the intake.
Now it seems to have gone a bit further, Ferrari is not using water/coolant in the intercooler system but some type of oil. In itself that isn?t a violation. But some teams are having concern that the oil is boiling off some type of additive that is then being plumbed into the intake post intercooler, that is increasing HP. No determinations or comments from the FIA about any of this. I can see Liberty Media taking some part in silencing it for viewership/competition just as they allowed Honda to bring 4 in-season engine updates. Last thing they want to see is AMG taking another DC/CC in 2020 uncontested.
If this is going on, Renault, Honda and all the Ferrari&AMG customer teams having a legitimate bitch.
F1 is a game of constant updates and cheating wherever they can get away with it. Just part of the game.
