Just a plain Jane 1972 Corvette. 350cid, auto (Turbo 400), PS, but no A/C. I always weigh with a nearly full fuel tank. I was out of the car for that weighing, but since I always weigh with me in. I stumbled across the weight slip a while back, I think it was 3230lbs.  The reason why I weighed it was on a bet. A friend had a 1962 Corvette, claimed it was lighter. I won the bet.

Most don't realize it, but Corvettes are one of the few cars that haven't gotten bloated over the years. My son's 05 Z06 is just under 3200lbs on the scales at Road Atlanta in "legal" trim, with him in it. He has since put it on a diet and is sub 2900. But it's not livable, as A/C, interior trim, etc has disappeared.  His sanctioning body (NASA) has P/W requirements, so he is running an air restrictor. But he says the lighter car with less power is faster than the same P/W in a heavier car.

Funny to see published weights. My prior Maserati was shown as 4400ish, but with me and fuel, it was an even 4800.  Seems Italian cars  publish unrealistic low numbers, while some American cars do the opposite. My new Maserati is supposed to be 300lbs lighter than the previous, but I haven't run it across the scales yet.

Hans.

Hans, the GT4 weight is expected but please share the specs on your 72 Vette.

LT1, 4spd, PS, PB, etc.?

Your estimate of weight with 1/2 tank and no passengers?

Thanks

Just a little 350.  But enough that it put me in traffic court on a regular basis.  For parking tickets, as I recall...

Mine was about 3200lbs with full tank and me sitting in it.

I always weigh my cars that way. Oddly enough, my 1972 Corvette convertible with both tops weighed about the same.

Ferrari adhered to my favorite decree:

“When in doubt, build it stout, with materials you know about”

The wall thickness of that oval chassis tubing is quite thick and there’s a substantial amount used to build that platform, not including the rest of the support structure for the body work and suspension. Also, the 246’s body was mostly steel nearly doubling the weight over the 206’s alloy panels.

It all adds up and I’m not surprised it’s pushing close to that amount. I keep meaning to bring my GT4 down to the local truck weigh station and getting a certified weight for the car. I would bet it’d tip over 3K lbs.

Doug, you mention the fascination with the Dino 246?

While it is nice to look at, it is also chunky at 2800 lbs?

Always wondered why a car that small was so heavy.

The Lancia Stratos on the other hand...
