Re: Happy holidays

I had the motor out 19 years ago, but just rebuilt the top-end, not the bottom. When I measured the bores, they were still within spec (although close to the upper wear limit). The top-end needed the attention. It still had the sodium valves and three were bent!

I’ve put around 20K mi on it since, but I have broken rings in cylinder #7. I would not be surprised if the bores are at the wear limit now.

Besides, a lot of flanges are leaking oil, especially the motor to transaxle joint, so it’s time to clean things up and seal it up properly (I just used regular Permatex on these joints and I’ve found that it doesn’t hold up over time). I’ve had great success with Hylomar and I’ll be using that this time. I’ll also take some liberties with the engine spec, as I’ve alluded to, to Lashdeep 😉

Not much else to do during COVID except spending money on make-work projects (and/or buy another crappy Ferrari to drive in the meantime)...

Peter

(for some reason, just received this....)

I thought you did a thorough rebuild back when you bought the car.
Does it have that many miles on it to require doing it again?

Hans.
