Military didn’t have to account for the (well heeled) general public. A military pilot dies and it’s a sacrifice. A Bugatti customer dies and it’s a huge lawsuit.
So is there anything special for airplanes? I’m assuming the demands of a car tire are very different from an airplane? Sustained heat, speed etc in a 250 mph vehicle?

The F-4 main gear lifted off the runway after a mile takeoff run at about
200 knots that’s around 230 mph and it weighed 58k combat gross weight
And those tires were not glued on !

The cost is because the tires are glued to the rims. You can buy aftermarket rims for the Veyron and use Michelin Pilot Sports. You just can’t do 250mph runs. Veyrons are not as expensive as they are portrayed. You don’t have to pay $12,000
for an oil change.
