1977 FERRARI 308 GTB #22641
$129,500
We are pleased to offer 1977 US model carburated 308 GTB s/n 22641. When introduced in October of 1975 at the Paris Auto Salon, the Pininfarina designed 308 GTB was an elegant replacement for the much-missed 246 GT. Thanks to the lines penned by Pininfarina designer Leonardo Fioravanti, the 308 GTB continued the aggressive yet curvaceous and exotic lines shown in Fioravanti’s earlier 206 and 246 GT, 365 GTB/4 Daytona and 365 BB Berlinetta Boxer designs.

RUNS AND DRIVES AS-NEW
From mid-2016 to mid-2019, the owner authorized DG Restorations to complete a full bare-metal, glass-out, exterior refinish in the original Azzurro Metallic plus new tan leather upholstery and a refinishing of all four wheels. The ignition system was also rebuilt plus a replacement of both fuel tanks, the cam belts and tensioner bearings, rebuilds of the brake calipers, installation of new brake pads and rotors and a new ANSA exhaust. The car was wet-sandblasted to bare metal under the seller’s ownership, and rust repair was performed before a repaint in factory Azzurro Metallic (106–A–32). A new windshield, rear window and passenger door glass were also added along with replacement fender skirt seals and other body gaskets, while the aluminum trim was re-anodized.
REFINISHED IN THE ORIGINAL AZZURRO METALLIC PLUS NEW TAN LEATHER UPOLSTERY
MECHANICALLY SORTED AND NEEDS NOTHING
This beautifully carburated 308 GTB is unusually well documented back to the original warranty book, listing the sale to the first owner,  Lawrence Gibney, Beaverton, OR by Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo,  Wilsonville, Oregon. Mr. Gibney kept s/n 22641 for 4 years and 7 months, from 29 June, 1980 to January 1985 and drove 26,433 miles. In Jan., 1985 s/n 22641 was sold to the second owner’s, Leslie E. Hodel & Gladys L. Hodel, Portland, OR and registered on Oregon plate “BQF 896”. Mr. Hodel kept 308 GTB s/n 22641 from January 1985 with 26,433 miles, to May 14, 2004 with 29,941 miles, so 19 years and 4 months, driving only 3,508 miles. On 14 May, 2004 s/n 22641 went to it’s third owner, Alan Leach, Houston, TX, an active member on FerrariChat.com with 29,941 miles, who drove it from Portland to Houston, stopped in Napa to drink a little wine with Mario Andretti. Alan Leach kept s/n 22641 until January 2015 with 35,683 miles, so 10 years and 9 months, while driving only 5,742 miles. In Jan., 2015 s/n 22641 was sold to the current owner in Spokane Valley, Washington at 35,683 miles,  registered on 2016 WA plates “AWM1111”. The current owner has owned s/n 22641 for seven years and counting, with only  36,001 miles today.

In 2015 and early 2016 the current owner had the A/C overhauled by Mark’s Automotive, Post Falls, Idaho with an air conditioning upgrade kit which included a new condenser, new AC lines (front to rear), a rebuilt A/C compressor, a new dryer and a new A/C fan blower motor, the evaporator box was replaced and the A/C system was evacuated and recharged. The fuel system was serviced, including draining the fuel tanks, removing, cleaning and re-installed the fuel tanks, installing new fuel cross-over hose, a new fuel pump and regulator, new vapor hoses and a new fuel filter. A major “30k” cam-belt service was completed including a valve adjustment, new cam belts, new cam and accessory belt tensioners, new cam seals, a new front crank seal, a new water pump and thermostat, new spark plugs, an overhaul, sync and adjust of all four Weber carbs and an oil and oil filter service. The brake system was treated to a rebuild of the calipers, all new brake rotors and a brake fluid flush. A new clutch, a new pressure plate, a new throwout bearing and a new rear main seal were installed. A new battery and a full set of new tires were installed. The total service time was 9 months, from 07 May, 2015 to 24 Feb., 2016. The total invoice was $17,001.84

All the work was photos documented in not one, not two but three photo albums.

In June-July 2019, because the service by Mark’s Automotive, Post Falls, Idaho was four years ago, 308 GTB s/n 22641 was again treated to a “30 k” service by Ferrari Technologies, 1131 West Collins, Orange, CA 92867 at 35,792 miles. The “30 k” service included remove and rebuild the ignition distributor and housing, disassemble the ignition distributor for sonic treatment, sonic clean 23 pieces (including the distributor, cam covers, belt covers and plates), remove all covers, wires, hoses, belts and bearings, install new cam belts, adjust all valves, degree all four cams, install new tensioner bearings, change all fluids and filters, install new fuel filters, disassemble, modify/update and reinstall both air pumps, remove and replace all exhaust gaskets, remove and replace the fuel pump, bleed all brake calipers with fresh fluid, thoroughly clean the engine, diagnose and repair the A/C electrical issues, diagnose and repair the A/C power supply issue, evacuate and recharge the A/C system with R134a. New parts included new cam belts, new accessory belts, new cam belt tensioner bearings, new cam seals, new cam cover gaskets, a new fuel filter, a new fuel pump, new exhaust gaskets, new spark plugs, a new oil filler cap and new air check valves. The total service time was only two weeks, from 27 June, 2019 to 09 July 2019 at 35,792 miles. The total invoice was $14,850

In only the last few weeks, in Aug.-Sept. of this year, the owner authorized Dugan Enterprises, 1678 Ord Way, Oceanside, CA to complete any minor detail work needed. Dugan Enterprises overhauled the passenger seat belt, overhauled the alternator, performed a compression and leakdown test, repaired the driver’s door lock, installed a new battery cover plate, installed new engine lid louver hardware, repaired the windshield wiper system, rebuilt the steering column light switches, fitted  new engine mounts, resealed the drop gear case, replaced the front main seal, replaced the engine and transaxle pan gaskets, installed new differential flange seals, installed a new rear exhaust muffler, fabricated new exhaust hangers; aligned the front and rear bumpers, moving them closer to body, re-shaped the passenger’s side sun visor, detailed the under body, sublet the clock for a rebuild, performed a nut and bolt of the steering column, re-positioned the shifter tower to center in neutral, removed and refitted the bell housing to re-seal the input shaft, resealed the 5-8 bank cam cover gasket, install a new rear exhaust grille, refitted the lower left side windshield trim and safety checked the car. The total invoice was $24,871.32

Needless to say 1977 308 GTB s/n 22641 is fully mechanically sorted and needs nothing. Cosmetically 308 GTB s/n 22641, is without reproach. The paint is a very high quality and because the body has been block sanded, the body is dent-free and ripple-free! All of the trim finish is as-new! Thanks to the early 308s clever door latches, the doors open and shut with a finger light touch and the front hood and deck lid open and close with ease. The frame, lower body and all suspension components have been painted, powered coated or replated and restored to as-new. All four 7 1/2 x 14 Campagnolo wheels have been repainted and feature the correct wheel decals, mounted on a set of new and correctly sized Michelin 205/70 VR XWX tires. The leather interior upholstery and carpets are in excellent condition. The windshield, rear window glass and passenger door glass are new.

S/n 22641 comes with its full set of original books, with their original pouch, the correct original  warranty card, and the full set of tools with their bag. Having accrued only service and test miles since the restoration and last service, this early steel-bodied 308 is ready-to-go for an owner who wants to experience it to the fullest on the show field or the open road. This blue Berlinetta can be presented at Ferrari Club of America events, weekend Cars & Coffee gatherings, or as a pride of ownership in the owners garage, thanks to the no-expense-spared restoration and service work over the last five years. With seemingly no detail left unattended, chassis 22641 must be seen to be fully appreciated. It is truly an ideal candidate for the serious Ferrari enthusiast seeking the most desirable iteration of the steel-bodied 308 GTB. S/n 22641 also comes with not one, not two but three photo and service invoice albums that illustrate the service and restoration done over the last six years. Call us or drop us an e-mail for scanned or PDF copies of the extensive service and restoration work done. As a 1977 year model, this car is not smog legal in California and is therefore only for sale as a 49-state car. Priced to sell at $129,500 or best offer.
