Where does Brian live that he needs a back up weapon? The ghetto? Or maybe its the clients he sells his cars too? Hmm ? Brian Buxton wrote originally: >My main weapon is a Glock 40 cal. with a Walther PPK-S for an occasional backup. My load in each is either Glaser safety slugs or Black Talons. Have a stash of each since I don't believe either have been legal for sale for a while! And I replied: >I thought that the efficacy of the Glaser safety slug was disproven 15 years ago or so? All marketing and no stopping power? ============== Jokes from the peanut gallery aside, :-) here are a couple of scholarly articles which refute the claims of the Glaser safety slug: "Prefragmented Bullets: Dangerously Inadequate for Personal Defense" http://www.firearmstactical.com/briefs5.htm "Pre-fragmented bullets like MagSafe and Glaser are easily defeated by an arm, and this is why we feel they're inadequate for personal defense use. Any pellets that manage to exit the arm and penetrate the torso are going to produce minimal wounding effect. Pre-fragmented bullets require best case conditions to produce maximum wounding effect. http://www.firearmstactical.com/briefs23.htm Oh, and lots of people complain, wound efficacy aside, Glasers cause load problems in Semi-autos due to their light weight, and they are less accurate to boot. But if you really want them, they are freely available via mail order from dozens of sources. Oh, and Glasers will also penetrate wallboard just as well as any non-PF bullet. So what's the benefit, exactly? As for the "Black Talon", the newest, most improved version of it is also freely available to civilians, under the name "Ranger SXT" - "Black Talon" became "Ranger Talon" became "Ranger SXT".
