I wonder if anyone has ever taken one of these big road warriors and spent time (and big $$$$$) to remove weight rather than going the other way by adding bigger this and bigger that.

Let's see. we could start by deleting the power seats...

It's probably much more difficult to put the car on a diet than any other performance modification. Gee, do I KNOW that !

Still, if you want/need the room, you can't get around the fact that you
need more motor to haul it, then bigger brakes, beefier suspension, etc.
And more airbags, more sophisticated stereos, etc. And it all adds up.

I'm still firmly entranced by this custom sedan build by the listmaster of
the UUC BMW list. He took an E38 750i, swapped in a 6-speed tranmission
(from an 850CSi), added brakes and a sport suspension, sport seats and a
bunch of other nice mods. Weighs probably around 4k lbs, and will SMOKE a
Testarossa.

I guess I don't get it. BIG sedans that weigh as much the aircraft that
Clyde fly. I know it's difficult to find low-weight high- performance
sedans, but 5000 pound cars???? These are not very much
fun to drive. It's like going out with a 200 pound supermodel.
There ain't nothin' super about it, so what's the point?

If you must, there are just three words to remember: 1965 Maserati
Quattroporte
