Do not buy a deep cycle battery for a car. They are designed to provide
smaller currents over large amounts of time (such as cruising for day on
your trolling motor). They are not nearly as well suited for short
high-current bursts needed for starting a car, particularly in colder
conditions.
The Optima batteries seem to be universally well liked. I believe the red top is the most common for automotive applications. Their website doesn't show newer Ferrari applications, but all you have to do is match the group size and the arrangement of posts (top or side, positive on left or right). I've seen them in 355s before, so I'm sure the application is the same for a 348.
Tenders are always a good idea as long as they're the very low current kind which automatically shut off at full charge. I prefer mine external as most come with a quick-disconnect plug which can be left in the car. The 355 has a jump starting post in the back by the motor. If the 348 does, this is the easiest place to access it. If not, you can always leave the plug coming through the front fenderwell next to the battery.

Despite all of my best efforts, nothing else seems to show any problems so it is off to the shop for a new battery for my 348 Spyder.
Right now I'm thinking about an Optima gel battery, as apparently changing
out the battery is not simply open the battery box cover and remove the
battery. Does anyone know if Optima even makes a battery in the correct size and
post position for these cars?
Second thought is going with one of those marine deep cycle batteries
(Optima if possible) as in the winter time the car may go for a month or so without
being started. Any thoughts pro or con?
Finally, any recommendations for battery tenders? Installed or external? Position and wiring? Any brand or specification recommendations?
