Yeah, I'm not worried about the swept area under the pad, just basically
whether the rusty hats will remain rusty forever.  It's so light though, a
quick hit with a scouring pad should clean it off.  I just wanted to prevent
it from recurring, if it was easy...  :-)

Light rust can be removed using phosphoric acid.  Body shop supply houses
sell it as "MetalPrep."
