Late 1987... I was looking for a "toy". Considered a Porsche 944 ($38K), a
Mazda RX-7 Turbo ($25K) and a Toyota MR2 ($18K?). Got to thinking.... gee,
bet I could find a Ferrari around that price. So, started checking the NY
Times and other sources... within a couple of weeks found a couple...
arranged to see one in Queens, NY and eventually arrived at a compromise
price.

I was a complete Ferrari virgin at the time... had virtually no clue and
back then there was no FerrariList to get Clyde's opinion! So, got a car
that was pretty neat (1977 Euro 308 GTB) though had a few issues (eventually
needed an engine rebuild in about 1999). But I still have it and do enjoy
it.

The 944 today would be worth.. $3K? The RX-7 ditto? MR2 - not much. 308
is still worth something around what I paid ($21.5K) (yeah, not counting the
engine rebuild...) but still, a better deal long term. Should have sold in
1990 at the peak of the insanity! Heck, in 1985 I was offered a 288 GTO for
about $90K - at the height of the insanity in the late 1980s they were going
for about a million (as I recall...). What could have been... of course, I
didn't have the $90K so the whole point is moot.
