First, your proposals are excellent and would make life better for people like those on this list and reduce teen driver deaths - which would make everyone happier - there's few things sadder than seeing a parent at their childs funeral asking - "Why"? over & over to anyone who will listen.

As far as me running for Pres, Gov or Representative? Nope, not for me - don't know about Ken but I believe the people who run for public office and put themselves at the mercy of the various "News Organizations" to have their background raped and pillaged are out of their minds! I don't buy the news peoples argument about the publics right to know - some things are offlimits and presently the newsmedia seem to know no bounds. They will check every detail of the persons life if they are Republican - looking at everything they ever said or did. The recently unseated Sen Allen (R-Va) was painted as hiding finances from Congress because of some High Tech stock options - months later we find the options were worthless and he never exercized them. Also, he called a opponents campaign worker "Macaca" which few people know what it means or feel it is a racial epiteth - yet the media went on for weeks analyzing every aspect of this event. Yet Sen Byrd (D-WV) - the Pork King of the Universe - is given a pass for being a member of the KKK when he was younger. To me, Sen Byrd's previous membership is far worse than anything Allen was accused of doing. But, if it happened long ago and he has "repented" it should be put to rest - which it has, but if a similar thing appeared in a Repubican's past it would be brought up every time he ran for re-election or was involved in something important.

Like most people I have a life - and in that life I have done things I should not have done - and I would not want to see those things as headlines or on the evening news being read by some nitwit who has probaby done worse. Also, some things would hurt not me but people I have known as well as my family.

I know your suggestion was in jest - but I'm pretty passionate about the media's lack of any scruples when they go about looking for ways to destroy someones life. They change election results by being "creative" in the way things are reported.

So, while being President no doubt has plenty of perks (just ask Clinton) and the retirement package is outstanding - I think I'l pass.

Larry

I have long been a proponent of graduated drivers licences with increased privlidges (and responsibility)

1) A provisional drivers license earned through strict, comprehensive testing....one with which the driver must be accompanied by an adult (preferably parental) or some one who holds a series 3) or higher license. This license is easily lost or suspended for various and simple infractions. No night, interstate highway or out of state privlidges.

2) A graduated license that would allow the driver to drive with out the above restraints.

3)Again a graduated license for which the driver must be further tested having no black marks from either of the above catagories. Privlidges as we know them now.

4) The maximum ....unrestricted but defined by condition, a hard earned license with tough responsibilities and tough penalties if in violation ie; arrested for 70mph in an active school zone, or DUI, or truly poor judgmental driving habits. You shoud pay the penalty ... which could be any thing from total revocation of privlidge or being dropped to a class 2 license. If it is 2 AM road conditions are optimum you are driving a car that is safe and capable of 180mph and you are not interfering with other drivers. Have at it.
This drivers license would be a badge that is tough to arrive at but would recieve respect form other drivers and the law.
Why don't you or Ken (or some other lister) run for Pres. and enact a law like this.

Have a nice day, Phil
