This was a publicity stunt that had been planned for months by the producers. 
The car that was wrecked was a Enzo clone, one of three that was created for 
the movie. Which would explain why the camera was positioned the way it was to 
record the "crash" and why there was a guy standing so close to the barrier who 
didn't even flinch when the car hit. It's amazing how many car "experts" were 
fooled on this one.
