But it was closer to 70mph. I learned this the day Tom Reynolds and I swapped GT4s for an afternoon tour of the wine country of Baja Arizona, down around Elgin. There (IMHO) was no difference in performance until Tom started to creep ahead of me about 70mph in his 308 'Mario' although I was shifting @ 7.5K rpm. We traded cars and the same thing happened. That extra litre sure pays off. On the bright side though, in each car I was always faster in stopping and tasting the fine wines of the region. I wish there was something I could say that would help ease the pain but I think only time helps. I was prepared to do the same - it was done and past history - then I found I owe almost $2k in taxes & have been looking for all deductions possible (& impossible it appears). She was with us for 10+ years with the last 3 yrs totally bedridden. If my wife wasn't an angel I'm not sure I could have managed the bathing, bathroom stuff, meals, etc. My wife & I both promised our parents we wouldn;t let them go into a nursing home - they were from a generation where "nursing home" had a very bad conotation. At one point both our moms were "living" with us. Debbie's mom was comatose when she arrived - the doctor sent her home to die but once we got her off the dozen or so meds she came back (terrible doctor that she trusted). As for my mom - my brother & his wife were in the process of admitting her to a NH when we went and brought her home with us. Not a pretty scene. Mom was confused much of the time. Sorry about the long story - Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil PORSCHE POSTERS! youroil.net Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs Porsche Road Test http://members.rennlist.com/roadtest/ ... ----- Original Message ----- From: red5hilser [at] aol.com To: l02turner [at] comcast.net Cc: Ferrari [at] Ferrarilist.com Sent: Thursday, April 05, 2007 10:07 AM Subject: Re: [Ferrari] Off Topic - NPC No Porsche Content, NFC, - US Tax Question Hey Larry. Sorry to hear of your loss. Same thing happened to me when my 23 year-old son was killed on a motorcycle. The hospital and funeral expenses set me back around $10 grand. I paid for everything. Deduct it on my taxes? Hell no. I was proud to do it. I wanted to pay it for my only son as a final gesture of love and gratitude that I felt and still feel for him. We provided care with the help of Hospice during the last 9 months. She had no estate - basically a zero balance checking acct & no other assets - I was her executor. I paid for her funeral out of my account. Question is, can I deduct her funeral expenses? I never claimed her as a dependent and when she passed away in Jan. 06 I paid around $5k for the funeral. I guess I didn't have to pay for it, but *someone* had to. I didn't mind, I'd do it again - I guess it wasn't manadatory but I'd like to use the deduction if appropriate. Is the FXX a "real" race car? It might seem like it to most, but it's not in that it's still a modified street car. It's also peculiar in that it's not really intended to be raced, yet it's a race car. The fit and finish on the FXX is perhaps the best ever in a "race car". He goes to power way too abruptly, and needs to be WAY smoother on the accel. He seems to have decent car control, which he's probably learned as a necessity of his driving style which probably gets him in trouble often. He seems to be fighting the car way more than he should. But I've yet to drive an FXX, so who knows if I'd be any better.
