Yes. I posted the same to some other lists today.

 "Gilles was the last great driver," Prost said a year after the  
French-Canadian's death. "The rest of us are just a bunch of good  
professionals."

Jacques Laffite, another contemporary, put it a different way.

"No human being can do miracles, you know, but Gilles made you  
wonder," he said.



Niki Lauda said "I liked Gilles even more than I admired him. He was  
the best - and fastest - racing driver in the world".



Watkins Glen 1979: During an extremely wet practice session for this  
race, Villeneuve set a time 11 seconds faster than any other driver.  
His team-mate Jody Scheckter, who was second fastest, recalled that  
"I scared myself rigid that day. I thought I had to be quickest. Then  
I saw Gilles's time and - I still don't really understand how it was  
possible. Eleven seconds!"

"Quite apart from his superlative ability in a racing car, he was a  
charming man, who never changed with fame and fortune. Polite, honest  
and straightforward, he had a tremendous sense of humour and a simple  
love of life. His attitude to motor racing was unfashionably  
romantic. In a bland, commercial, world, he loved it for its own  
sake. The jet set made him cringe, and he had an instinctive  
abhorrence of anything bogus. For me, and, I suspect, many thousands  
of others, the light has gone out in motor racing."
