Hey Britt,
I bet it was a hoot to go to LeMans in a Cobra! As far as alternatives, the Speedster is an excellent choice. You might also consider the Beck 550 with semi-stock VW or Porsche engine which can be modifed to give a lot of performance, a lot of reliability or a mixture of both. Also, along with these 2 classic Porsches, there is a early 60s 356 Convertible which will be more comfortable than the Speedster. It will undoubtedly have a better engineered top should you choose to drive when the weather is bad. Since each example is infinitely different depending on the owners wishes, things can vary greatly in quality of material, engineering and construction.

Also, consider Intermecannica (sp?)as it is considered a excellent builder of Speedster/Convertible replicas. BTW, there can be a huge difference between a replica and a kit car.

I believe you are looking at a excellent reason for owning a Replica or Kit car. The real versions of the cars you mention are prohibitively expensive to drive and maintain making the replica very attractive.

Good luck with your search - please keep me in mind as you make your decisions. I have looked at replicas extensively and may be able to help.

Subject: [Ferrari] Seeking advice on Ferrari alternative

Hi Guys,

I have been on the list since 2001 and need some advice if anyone has any
information. I am selling the 400i (eventually) to get a 512tr or a 550 but want
a second toy which may not be another Ferrari. I am kind of caught on the idea
of a speedster replica (either a Beck or a Chesil) both of which are
available in the UK.

Anybody have any thoughts or ideas on Speedsters, their driving dynamics (if
they have any) fun factor, or anything else? I want a simple, reliable, car I
dont have to worry about regardless of weather that is also a really good
looking car and outside of Ferraris the Speedseter comes to mind.

Anybody ever drive one? I am not into "kit cars" at all though I have helped
with a very expensive DAX cobra which we took to Le Mans last weekend.
Blasting through country roads in France with the Cobra was a ton of fun and got me
thinking that a fiberglass replica car may not be such a bad thing to go with
the more advanced ferrari.

Thoughts? Help??!
