I didn't want to whip out my cam and start snapping pics. The owner is a
pretty private guy, and it was a "friend to friend" type encounter, rather
than a paparazzi moment. :)

That said... And not that I'm overly biased (wink) but the performance
numbers that Ferrari have used comparing the 599 to the F40 have one small
little asterisk that nobody seems to mention:

The 0-60 times, and the Fiorano track times, are always quoted with stock
tires - that means 1987 tires on the F40 vs. 2007 tires on the 599. 20 years
of tire technology alone can more than account for the performance diffs. If
you put an F40 on track with current rubber vs. a stock 599, I'm not
convinced that  the 599 would be victorious. Nothing against the 599 - it's
an amazing car. But the comparison to the F40 that Ferrari is trying to show
in their marketing collateral isn't exactly a fair one... (IMHO).

j/k, but it'd be nice to see some pics...

I like the 599 from a point of view of the pinnacle of Ferrari front engine
V12 Engineering and interior design. The styling isn't stellar, but superior
to the 612, and interesting....

Those dark colors do bring the best out of the 612 and as I can see with
your post the 599. Kudos in it being a 6 speed....can't belive it's the
FIRST one after all this time....how sad the market is these days.

Steve, is it weird that the 599 will give your F40 a run for the money on
the road and track?
