Huh. Interesting, I guess YMMV! FWIW, on both my E39 and E38, as well as
Nissan Armada and Honda Odyssey, all of the homelinks work without the key.
I can come home from a bike ride, open up any of these vehicles, and just
open the garage door (hmmm... Maybe I should be locking the cars, now that I
think about it...)

Carl, easy enough to test before you wire it up. I have all my V1s wired so
that they come on automatically when the car does, otherwise it's too much
of a hassle to remember to turn off and (more importantly) to turn them on
each and every time.

BTW, for those of you that haven't already done this: you can PROGRAM your
V1 (instructions are in Mike's Tips on the V1 site). I have mine set so
that if I hit the mute button, the sound doesn't just decrease to the "muted
sound level", but rather the sound shuts off entirely, AND it doesn't come
back on if an additional alert is sounded - perfect for cruising through
areas with multiple emitters, like shopping malls with door openers. Big
improvement, IMHO.

Vty,

Not in my 2001 E39 540...Homelink turns off with ignition in position "0"

Just keep in mind that the homelink is, IIRC, powered-on all the time (ie, I
can open my garage doors when the car is off).

I was just looking at the bottom link. I will use the harness for the
homelink as suggested.
