Typically a Virus will be more destructive - such as: sending mail to your address list, deleting and moving files, that kind of stuff. But sometimes they can use resources which can cause a slowdown.

Try it to at least a couple destinations to confirm, as it seems to
vary a bit.  I can get up to 24mbit in Seattle, down to 10mbit to
Los Angeles.  I use Comcast cable.

ummm (in the office - AT&T DSL wifi)

SEA = 1.5 mbits/sec
LAX = 1.1 mbits/sec

I'll try cleaning up the temp files, etc. Viruses are very rare in
MacWorld but possible, Would a virus typically do this?
