Hi Dr Steve,
Maybe we can find a way to help -
Do you have the WIN installation/recovery CD?
Hmm... you probably don't want to lose everything on that puter do you?
Would make life easier if it didn't matter - but we'll assume you want to keep everything of value -- Try to start in safe mode - when Win gets ready to start (before the splash screen)hit nF8 until you see startup options - select Safe Mode - If that loads you may be able to get to system recovery -
So, turn everything off - wait 20 sec then turn on - when the system resources screen pops up, keep hitting F8 until startup options pop up --

While on the subject of computer help, I have one laptop that is down and
needs to be reinvigorated due to the fact that much of the software that is on
it is necessary but we have, admittedly foolishly, misplaced the media that is
necessary to reinstall it.
After fussing with AOL (yes, I know it is an enigma, and to be avoided but
it is too late to do anything about it so noting it and then criticizing using
it is not particularly helpful at this juncture) tech support and following
their instructions to no avail in trying to figure out why the software would
not boot up in mode to use the wireless network something occurred, yes again
you can criticize but it won't be helpful, wife managed to click on
something that cause the computer to lose its Windows Explorer.
Each time I boot it up, I get an error message telling me that Windows
Explorer cannot be found, and although the opening screen desktop background
appears, and I can do things such as control-alt-delete to access Task Manager, I
have no icons on the screen and no toolbars, hence I can't do anything but
wait for the screensaver to kick in.
I'm open to any all knowledgeable suggestions, other than don't let my wife
touch any of my computers ever again, I'm not quite ready to join the other
Steve yet..
TIA,
Dr. Steve
