Hey cLyDe(TM): That was the year that der Frau learned that the 2nd most
popular sport in Europa is public urination. From the Little Pisser in
Brussells to most of the men, women,?and children we saw on our trip. The motto
over there is, "When in doubt, whip it out!" The Formula 3000 people were using
the old pits across from our grandstand and we saw more dicks out there than
the entire detective division of NYPD has. And, cYyDe(TM): Where were you
sitting?

Great story!

BTW, was that the Spa wet race where 10-12 cars crashed at one of the early
corners? It's a tight right hander and everyone was drifting and sliding -
pretty quickly someone hit someone else and all the cars were doing a water
ballet into the Armco. Got it on tape somewhere around here. There was also
a
wet race where MS got really mad at someone and followed him into the pits with
*FIRE* in his eyes! Various people were trying to calm him down and he was
brushing them all aside. He was *seriously* focused. I bet that's the way he
is when driving --

Take care -

Hey Larry: Yea, the first F1 race I took der Frau to was the 1995 Belgium
race
at Spa Francorchamps. Although Alesi and Berger put their Ferraris on the 1st
row, both dropped out early and Michael dominated the rest of the race to win
going away. It was raining as usual and we were sitting in the covered
grandstand between La Source and Eau Rouge, opposite the old pits. All the cars
were sliding around La Source before heading down the hill. They were all over
the track. All except Michael, who looked like he was on rails. I never got to
see Fangio in his prime ... but I imagine he and Michael were cut from the same
cloth. Later, at a GP cocktail party in Montreal, a charity auction was held to
help the mechanics' widows and orphans fund and I picked up Mika Salo's 1995
Tyrrell drivers suit that the wore in the race at Spa. I gave it to der Frau as
a token of her 1st F1 race. It's hanging right next to the boy's red Ferrari
suit that he wears when he goes Karting.
I still have the souvenir of my 1st Long Beach GP too. A pair of S&W
handcuffs
that the cop only had time to put on 1 of my wrists before I broke away and got
lost in the crowd. You should have seen the stares I got before I got a key and
took it off. Imagine someone walking up to a beer stand and ordering, "Uno mas
cervesa, por favor!" while wearing a cuff on his right wrist and holding out a
$5 bill.

Was watching an old tape of the 1994 Monaco GP (yes Dennis, I'm living in
the past) and watching MS drive the Benneton is amazing as always - but
after seeing his dominance driving Ferrari's for al those years it's
interesting to see him throw the Benneton around and leave the competitors
in the dust.

He as 14+ seconds ahead of #2 after 6 or 7 laps - and pulling away. It also
looks like the Monaco course has changed a bit ver the years. A few more
laps and MS passed his team mate JJ Lehto !

Simply incredible. I wonder if he's given the credit he deserves? People
seem to talk about his leve of skill in a "matter of fact" manner - as if
everyone has the ability to drive like that.

Oh well - back to the past. ;-)
