Thx Dennis,
One of the links that popped up was an article about Pres Bush saying he was concerning about the effect of higher gas prices on families - he asked congress to approve drilling in ANWR & to fund alternative energy sources - That was back in 2005.

IMO we shoud be drilling everywhere we might find oil while at the same time looking for alternative energy sources, especially ones that would use our massive coal/coal slurry reserves - we have so many reserves untapped it's not right to leave it in the ground. The effect of $5/gal gas on our economy is enormous.

And thanks for correcting my Subject line to include "Off Topic".

Larry, click on the link below:

Bottom line - no, prices are not the same. Mostly due to government
policies (though things like refinery capacity and locations, infrastucture,
etc. all affect prices). But the biggest factor is government policy -
either high taxes, to make prices go up, or subsidies to keep the populace
happy, which causes prices to go down.

And for all of you conspiracy theorists/crackpot political analysts, before
you jump in here, keep in mind too that prices just in these United States
can vary dramatically. Pay $2.43 in New Jersey, or $3.53 in California.
That's a pretty frakkin huge price difference.

vty,

We've talked about the role Chindia plays in the rise of fuel prices - But
do BillyBob in China & SallySue in India pay the same price we pay here?
i.e. $3.00+/gal?

If not, why not? Supply & demand should be equal everywhere, right? And if

yes, I would think $3+/gal. would slow their growth dramatically given the
standard of living. or maybe those who can afford to buy cars aren't
affected by the cost?

What am I missing?
