IMHO, if it were an infection you would not be getting better, Fever
would be high, urine would be dark/discolored with urination often
painful/burning. It's also possible the infection would make you pass out -
sometimes without much if any warning.
A stone OTOH would tend to get better on its own given some time, even though you will feel like death would be preferable to the pain you're going through.
I suspect you have a stone which you may or may not notice passing - sometimes the pain is excruciating other times it is passed with no discomfort at all. The infection usually requires antibiotics to get better -
BTDT. Had more stone attacks than I care to recall - and have had kidney infections - probably 3 in 30 years - one made me pass out at work without *any* warning or indication that I wasn't feeling well.
More fun than a barrel of monkeys. When I have a kidney stone attack I usually go to the hospital where they give me something to stop the pain. Even though I take 20mg Percocet/day and have a implanted pump infusing a continuous drip of Dilaudid to my spine for other chronic pain I have - the stone pain breaks thru all that so I know I'm hurting-
You can always go to the ER so you don;t have to suffer until the doctors appt.

I am fighting it, but it is tough.
As it is, I ended up getting dragged out of bed - ran into my own bike on the way out of the garage - scratched the hood and mirror on the MINI. Then when I got back home, dropped my laptop and put a crack in the display.
Now, I am camped out on the floor; dosed up on over-the-counter meds; and counting the hours until my Dr. appointment in the morning. Got to bring him some pee to analyze and then probably an ultrasound to see if they can identify any stones.
The good news is that the sharp pains have passed - so the stone may be gone - still have an achy back and a feeling like I got kicked in the nads.
I will be better tomorrow once I get home from the doctor.
Until then, it is BioFreeze, Heating Pad and a whole lot of Cranberry juice.

I am lying in bed, in agony, with either a stone or just a kidney infection. Great reading all of these kidney comments.
