George, WELCOME! The best thing that you can do would to be to buy the best car that you can afford. Let me go a step further. If you can get your hands on the best example of a 308 QV for say $42K and along comes an average 328 for the same money, go with the QV. Yes the 328 is going to be the better car as it's the end of the 3x8 series and is more refined, but if you get a better sorted 308QV over an 'average' 328, then you are going to spend less in the long run. Lets look at something else....I'm assuming that you're looking at "asking prices". There is a HUGE difference between "asking price" and "Selling Price". Look at lots of cars within a model, get comfortable with the differences. Once you have done this, you will get an idea of what makes the difference between a $35K car and a $42K car. From there, find a car and make an offer....a low offer. I personally know of a 2V 3x8 car that was advertised at $44,900. When I inquired on it they SWORE they were not budging on the price. This car is absolutely one of the best examples out there of its type. The final selling price was BELOW $30K!!!! Don't let "asking" prices discourage you. Some guys won't budge, but many will as they want to unload the car. Finally, Conventional wisdom/list experience says you should build in a cushion of approx $2-4K per year for maintenance/parts, etc...(If you are mechanically inclined you can significantly reduce this figure, but plan on those numbers just in case) I only spent a few hundred in my first year, but this time next year I should have my engine out that that will more than make up for the $$ I did not spend this year. Good luck in your search! I have never owned a Ferrari but have been in love with them for many years. The cost was always too high, so I specialized in English sports cars. I recently sold my 1959 Jaguar XK 150-S, which I had restored over many years, and am in the market for a Ferrari. I had my heart set on a "reasonable price, reasonable condition, reasonable mileage" 308 GTS QV. Reasonable means ~20k-45K mi, $35-42K and recent Major Service with a clutch change for higher mileage cars. Unfortunately, there seem to be very few if any, available. One requirement is Red exterior with Tan or Bone interior. I have found a number of reasonably priced 328 GTS cars with the correct color and matching the reasonable price/mileage/condition criteria. I am looking for advice. Should I hold out for a 308 GTS QV or re-align my thinking and go for a 328 GTS? If you like, you can reply off-list. Thanks. Regards, George. _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/jimshadow%40verizon.net Sponsored by BidNip.com eBay Auction Sniper http://www.BidNip.com/ and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/
