Rick

Belated happy birthday and Happy New Year 2008! Seems as though a lot of
December birthdays on this list, I turned the double nickel on Christmas
Day!

A birthday anywhere between December 20 and New Year's basically is
horrible
because of the old "combination Christmas and birthday gift" scam, but what

can you do except smile? Anyway, my birthday is shared with Jimmy Buffet
and
Humphrey Bogart, not to mention JC!

Jim,

I'm glad to hear you're busy, but hopefully you can squeeze it in. This
year they'll have the ZR-1 and CTS-V, the F430 Scuderia for us to get up
close and personal with and I wonder of the Lambo Reventon will rear its
ugly head...

Make time, you know you want to. :-)

How were the valves when you checked the clearances? And how many miles
since the last time they were adjusted?

Thanks Deep.

Valve clearances were roughly within spec. None
closed down indicating worn out valve seats or
stretched valve necks.

Forever. That is to say, no clue. This is the first

While picking through all of my "junk" parts, I thought about what type of
car I could build using only those pieces.

What do you guys have in your garage lying around?

My "garbage":

July 1964 K Code 289 HiPo (complete motor)

Lamborghini Countach QV rear bumper
Ferrari Testarossa center lock wheel hubs
Ferrari 308 Koni Red Classic shocks
1998.5 Audi A4 wheels
E34 BMW 540i Bilstein HDs
1966 Shelby GT350 Alloy 10 spoke wheels

And much more...

Oh my gosh! I could build a factory! But I might
add, the most obvious are:

Four Mercedes wheels and tires, Four Ferrari wheels
and tires, a pretty much complete MG electrical
system, numerous gauges, two 1-1/2" SU carbs, two
40DCOE Weber carbs, windshield wiper motor for a 1930
Chevrolet, valve springs for a 1924 Henderson
motorcycle, loose odds-n-ends from a Mondial QV,
308GTB, Lotus Europa, MGBs (three of them), MG Midget,
BMW odds and ends and a few boxes labeled "Old car
parts" and a few boxes labeled "New car parts".

I guess the wiper motor is the strangest.

I sent an email to AllExperts.com's Adam:
Subject F1 super licence/F1 testing/racing Question Since Lewis Hamilton's
one month driving privilege suspension in France, what is the status of
Hamilton's F1 testing availability? I've been told both ways: one, that
since Lewis is suspended from driving in France for one month, that his
license was taken and either the police or the court has it and since he
doesn't have his driver's license he can't test or drive anywhere for one
month.
The other story is that this road suspension in France has nothing to do
with the F1 Superlicence, and won't affect his testing (and if it were in
the season, wouldn't affect his racing.) Which is true? Being a Brit, is
there a separate UK licence? Does the EU have an all-encompassing licence?
Thanks very much,
Tom Reynolds
Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----

Answer Hi Tom,
Road and F1 racing (super)licence have nothing at all in common. Gachot
(Jordan) lost his driving licence but could still race, although ironically
he was subsequently dropped. You can race and test without a road licence.

I have some original '74 GT4 wheels (they stay with the car) a 308 GTS front
sway bar with drop links (would somebody puhleeze buy this!) and misc.
pieces/parts lying around. The strangest is an aftermarket intake for a '95
Civic. Why I still have it is anyone's guess.

NOS Carpet floor mats for a -'71 - '78 Alfa Spider

Assorted steel and alloy wheels for 105/115 series Alfas

Assorted 4 cylinder Alfa engines and cylinder heads (mostly 2L,
although I'm pretty sure I have one 1750 block, not sure if I have the
   matching head)

Assorted used 4 and 6 cylinder alfa cams

Assorted used 4 and 6 Cylinder alfa exhaust headers

one pair of Alfa GTV-6 bumpers

One 5 speed transaxle for a alfa GTV-6/milano (non LSD)

one front bumper section for a '83-'89 Alfa spider (not sure which
   side)

Some assorted Alfa Spica injection pumps and related parts

Instrument cluster for a '83-'89 alfa spider, and some assorted gauges
   for alfas of other years

A pair of seats for an alfa spider (78 or so)

One original set of Dunlop brakes and all the related suspension parts
needed to install them for an early (66-67) alfa Duetto

One set (or possibly 3) ET slot mags for a BMW 2002

   3 BWA 14x6 Sportstar alloys for a 105/115 alfa

One set of stock alloy Wheels for a BMW 840ci

regulator) and 1 raw water pump for a universal super sabre (buick 225
CID odd fire v6) marine engine

Saab 900 CIS fuel distributor and assorted intake/fuel injection parts

One stock ferrari 308 QV muffler

Some assorted 308QV parts and the original Blaupunkt Am/FM cassete
stero that came out of it

One large box of assorted BMW E32 (750iL) parts (switches, control
   modules, etc)

One almost new complete toyota cylinder head from the mid 80s ... 22RE
engine perhaps, not sure its been years since I've looked at it.

A pair of used Solex carbs and linkage from a BMW 3.0CS

One used front air dam (kind of ratty) with fog lights from a BMW
   635CSI

Plus one and half ('75 and '77) alfa spiders that I thought at one
time I would build one car out of, not likely to happen any time soon,
but I probably have 90% of all the parts to do so.

I'm sure there is a lot more, but this is all I can think of without
   doing a physical inventory.
