Hey Steve: "Man up?" That's a phrase right out of one of them 'bath houses' in
San Francisco, ain't it? Around here it's 'cowboy up!' Nothing tougher than a
cowboy on a 1,200 pound, half-crazed bull?praying for that 8-second buzzer to
sound.

Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba?

I agree with you on principle, but are the participants, and the governments
of the countries through which the race proceeds willing to "man up" to the
challenge. Remember, something like this would require the racers to provide
firearms (with the permission of the host countries, of course) of sufficient
magnitude and quantity for personal protection and the host governments
themselves, many of whom may be sympathetic to the Islamic Jihad Sects, must
be

equally willing to provide military escorts for the racers on the race course
as well as tracking and protecting those who may get lost (I know this will
never happen, but just in case) also with sufficient firepower to defeat any
Jihadist and to prevent such things as roadside IED's (which are the nemesis
of our troops in the region). Apparently, the only way to safely participate
in this race is in an old WWII HalfTrack vehicle, or an MRAP (better yet a
Buffalo or Cougar, but you just think an MRAP will be expensive) with American
(or their home country) satellite and UAV support.

If and when those conditions are met, not only would I love to do Paris to
Dakar, but I'd "man up" to doing a passage of the Khyber Pass in Afghanistan,
just to totally piss off the folks that used to be our friends (or at least
something like the "enemy of my enemy is my friend) the Taliban, who with our
assistance kicked the Soviet's ass out of Afghanistan.

Then again, lets see, killing off the drug lords, stoning to death
adulterous wives, divorces that are cost-free (except for perhaps a donkey for
your
ex-wife to ride home to her family in disgrace)and as simple as going to the
town square and publicly declaring yourself to be divorced from your offending
spouse three (3) times and some other provisions of 14th Century Islam may
not be as bad as advertised. Heck, some of the folks on our list might even
still have their Ferraris under those laws. I guess this might mean that I lose

some face with our more liberal and female members, but then again, they
should be at least amenable to postulating on an intellectual plane.
