The problem with predicting Oil Shortages is the price dictates how much oil can be dragged kicking and screaming from the ground. At the current price a whole lot of different schemes become available since $3/gal gas allows many more ways of extracting oil to be used. I expect coal gasification, deeper oil wells, steam injection, and many more I haven;t heard about. Once extracting oil from coal is added to the mix the amount of gas become virtually limitless.
As far as global warming - IMO it's a red herring used to force tighter controls on our lives by various govt entities. Now that we have a CAFE of 35 by 2012 (or whatever) it limits the kinds of engines we can choose to buy. In effect the gov't is deciding what kind of engines to design and manufacture. I just hope the govt doesn't decide to control what kinds of used cars we drive.
One more comment about Global Warming - 20,000 years ago Kansas was covered with glaciers, so the earth is warming. Actually, the world is always changing, never static, and I prefer G warming to G cooling. ;-) Anyway, the argument is not whether the earth is warming but what is the cause. IMHO. I believe it the sun's cycles of increased output - especially since Mars was warmed also. The CO craziness is not supported by the facts either. The charts showing increased CO levels show the rise in levels during the 1st half of the 20th century - not the 2nd half as would be expected if mans recent automotive and.manufacturing excesses were the cause. The 1st half of the 20th C was dominated by coal burning home heat which has mostly been changed to electric and Nat Gas. I'm no expert but I believe coal produces more CO that electric generation and use or natural gas.
Or, I could say, "Ditto, Dr. Steve! It's all horses**t" ;-)

Just think about it.
Having to hail a yellow NYC Taxicab so that the driver can interpret the
owner's manual for you <g>. Only person on this continent who will be able to
read it.
To each their own. They could work, I could drive my kids to campus with two
or three of them in the bed of my pick and drop them off to go to their
separate classes. I will probably have to drop them off at the top of the hill
and pick them up in the evening on the bottom of the hill as they won't have the
power to make it up to the top.
