It is of course a strange world, where 70% of the cars built in UK are exported and 80% of the cars sold in UK are imported.

Nissan, Honda and Toyota maybe Japanese owned, but they are still built here in UK. Not a lot different from the Vauxhalls (GM) and Fords we have been building here since the 20s.
Peugeot design many of their cars here in UK as do others.
I think you are talking about 30-40 years ago
