Peter,
You are correct that it is set up rich. That is the
main reason I sold it, I happen to be allergic to its
high emissions. My new GTSi is no where near as
powerful but has all the emissions equipment intact
and therefore has very little emissions. I am
considering a supercharger down the road for 328
perfromance from the Porsche 928 tuners $6,500 (kit).
So the reason is definitely because of the trade off
of running a bit rich.

mine has electronic ignition. runs at 14:1 a/f on
cruise and DEFINITELY
doesn't idle like that when cold!
maybe he's got a set of rich running 60 idle jets or
something. *shrug*
makes me curious.
