I've had the problem for years with my Corvette. I can only use a K&N since it matches the size of my supercharger intake. So far it has not killed a MAF sensor, but it does create problems. I can be driving around perfectly normal and all of a sudden the car will start bucking and jerking like a throttle position sensor had failed. It hasn't - it's just that enough oil has collected on the sensor to make it give bad readings to the computer. The car becomes undriveable.
If I pull over and shut the car off for 3 minutes, the GM MAF sensor goes through a self-cleaning process where it superheats the MAF wire, which burns off the contaminants. After that it'll run perfectly again until the next build up. That can be a few hours on a freshly oiled filter or a couple of months on a filter that's been in a while.
K&N's web site swears it's not them, but on my car, it is them.

This happens frequently on any over-oiled air filter...

Some time ago i believe someone made a post regarding MAP Sensor failures as a result of the oil residue from K&N filters on their Ferrari. Am i remembering correctly and was that determined positively to be the cause of the MAP sensor failure. I had a MAP failure not too long after instaling a K&N filter in another car of mine and wanted to find out if this is a known cause .
