Doug and Jim,
        Absolutely correct.  I was told that as well, not sure when,
probably not when I had my first manual transmission car ('71 MGB purchased
new) but sometime between then and maybe 10 years ago or so.  I do find
myself putting my hand down towards the shifter occasionally on the SS just
to check what gear I'm in.  Good old short term memory, I guess, huh?  Dave,
what mechanic were you talking to?
