We bought a D200 last year and have been extremely pleased with it. We also
looked at the higher models but chose against them due to the extreme cost
difference and the fact that you lose the built-in flash of the D200 which was
a nice convenience for us since we're more casual users.

We bought the SLR because we needed a fast acting camera with which to capture
our new puppy. Our point-and-shoots had such a delay between button press and
shutter activation that they were worthless. The D200 is stunning in that
regard - shoots like a motor drive and in good light can get 8-10 frames per
second. Also bought the D200 over the lesser models to get the heavier duty
body and better seals. Love the large LCD and it has amazing battery life.
Really no complaints whatsoever with this unit.

We probably haven't learned half of what it can do, but it is a great unit. We
bought it with the highly regarded 18-200 AFS DX VR lens and that one lens does
95% of what you'd want due to the difference between standard SLR and digital
SLR focal lengths. You might remember that when you're using your existing
lenses - on a digital body the 18-200 we bought acts like a 24-300 on a regular
camera. I would like to get the 12-18 lens for wide angle shots, but other than
that we haven't needed anything else in a year.

Enjoy!

OK...watches are occasional f-list topics...why not cameras. I'm devesting my
4x5 outfil and have focused attentions on a Nikon D300.

With the Nikon D3 at 3x cost but with full frame sensor, ¿¿perhaps worth it??
Any personal recommendations.?

Don't mention Canon as I have a Nikon lens closet which precluds brand
switching.
(full frame digital Hassy would be nice tho) Like the idea of tying in a GPS
so pictures all contain precise location data.

So many toys, so little time.
