I think that there is a HUGE difference between overcooking it, losing control, and running into someone on the fastest portion of the track AND failing to see the stopped cars and the red light at the end of the end of pit row. The former is a "racing incident" - albeit a stupid one - and the latter is a flagrant disregard of an important safety regulation. PENALTY DESERVED.

Q: Did you give Lewis a warning about the red light over the radio?

Whitmarsh: "Yes."
Q: What's your reaction to the 10-place grid penalty for Magny-Cours?

Whitmarsh: "It's disappointing, it's a decision the stewards have made so
we've got to now make the best we can out of it."

Q: It's quite severe isn't it?

Whitmarsh: "It is. There was a different view taken in Monaco [with Adrian
Sutil being hit by Kimi Raikkonen] so we've got to work with what we're
given."

OTOH........

Q: What happened in the pits?

Kimi Raikkonen: "We made a good pitstop and got out more or less in front of
everybody else. I was side-by-side with Kubica when suddenly somebody hit
me. There was a red light, but I guess some people chose not to stop. It's a
shame, a mistake from him, but there's nothing I can change about it."

Q: What did you think of what Hamilton did?

Raikkonen: "I'm maybe not the best person to say because in the last race I
made a mistake. But this is two completely different stories, you can lose
control at 300kph on a circuit and hit someone, or go along on the pitlane
speed limiter and don't watch in front of you. That's a bit silly."
