He did it from memory because I looked it up 'But I'm oldernow. When I see something really horrible I put my foot down, because everyone else is lifting his.'

The context is 2 Ferrari drivers speed past a burning upside down wreck the rookie driver tries to see , the veteran stare straight ahead. No names are given.

It is in part 7 below photograph 155.

The complete quote was, "When I used to see a bad accident, I'd go to pieces, but now I keep my foot down hard because I know everyone else will be lifting his."

I know what you mean - when JeanPaul Sarti was talking to his future
gfriend at the museum after the Monaco race he said something like, "When I
see something really bad I put my foot down hard because I know everyone
else will be lifting his!" or something similar. Those words came directly
from The Cruel Sport although I cannot recall who said it -

Hmm. ... now I gotta look that up cause it'll bug me til I do -

I was in my early 20's when I bought it at Pickwick's on Hollywood Blvd (if
I remember right).
There were quotes used in Grand Prix movie that I saw in the cheap seats
(front row in the old Cinerama Dome on Sunset Blvd. I agree Great
photographs.

for a kid - but I worked a paper route and had spending money -but that
wiped me out ;-) Read that book cover to cover many times! Awesome

Some of the photos looked familar to me. Robert Daley used several in
his
book, 'The Cruel Sport,' about Grand Prix racing from 1959 to 1963. If
you
ever get a chance to see a copy, it's well worth the time and effort to
spend a few hours with it.
