The costs are estimated to be 850K pounds not dollars.

Max is now suing the News of the World for libel. He is also taking Das Bild in Germany to court for Breach of Privacy reprinting the pics supplied by the NOTW. As the case was brought under Human Rights legislation which originated from the EU it is probable he will win there too.

Although $120K does not sound much in the way of damages it is significantly more than has been awarded for previous cases of breach of privacy over here.

BTW, he is giving all the proceeds to charity (the FIA road safety thing I think).

Max Mosley. He wins his court case against The News of the World, a
British judge agreeing Thursday that the tabloid newspaper breached
the privacy of Mosley, the head of the FIA. The judge, Sir David Eady,
awarded Mosley, 68, damages of about $120,000 and legal costs
estimated to be at least $850,000 in his lawsuit against the tabloid.
“I found that there was no evidence that the gathering of March 28,
2008, was intended to be an enactment of Nazi behavior or adoption of
any of its attitudes,” the judge wrote. But, all was not great for
Mosley, as the judge denied the punitive damages he sought for
millions of dollars. The damage done to Mr. Mosley’s reputation by
“the embarrassing personal information” disclosed by the newspaper,
reported The New York Times, “cannot be mitigated by simply adding a
few noughts to the number first thought of,” the judge said. True.
