Weaknees website has some TIVO hacks for the remote - poke around.   
TIVO Hacks are a combination of keystrokes to add hidden functions
like putting clock numbers at the bottom which show elapsed time
of playing program plus current time.  Another changes advance
to 30 seconds.  Another give display options for recorded programs.
