Hey Chris: Don't let those bastards wear you down. Especially Bernie and that 'little worm,' as Mistress Helga calls him, Max. I guess that freedom of the press ends at the F1 paddock gate. Yer pal in the Colonies, Ferrari Bubba 16 October 2008 Nobody Gets You Closer This week on Pitpass It is with great regret that we inform you that this will be the last Pitpass newsletter we will be sending out for some time, certainly the last of the 2008 F1 season. In a shock move, in recent days Pitpass has found itself under attack from FIA stewards following a number of perceived "mistakes". Poor syntax, the incorrect use of apostrophes, the failure to use the TM trademark after the terms Formula One and F1, coupled with a perceived lack of proper respect for Mr Bernard Charles Ecclestone and Max Rufus Mosley, led to FIA stewards launching a full investigation. Subsequently, as the stewards delved deeper they found even more to complain about including aspects of the editor's private life including his taste in music, movies, pets and even the fact that he is one of only six people in the UK who still regularly purchases Vesta Chow Mein. Though he doesn't smoke or gamble and drinks in moderation - in fact it's a new beer, called 'In Moderation' - the FIA stewards, following the nanny state tendencies of the British government, have decided that the editor can only work two hours a week, must sit fifteen feet from his computer, and live on a diet of water and pulses - to be supplied by the FIA's medical delegate. Furthermore, in the interests of safety he is to wear protective clothing at all times, even when not working. The FIA insists that these rules, no matter how unwelcome, are for the good of the editor, Pitpass, it's readers and Formula One in general. OK, I jest - though I admit to the Vesta thing, however, what on earth was happening last weekend in Japan. Surely it is only a matter of time before we see F1 teams sponsored by 'Lawyers 4 U' with drivers exchanging details by the side of the track. At a time when we await the proposals from the FIA's Overtaking Working Group with baited breath, it seems as though stewards are equally determined to stamp out overtaking. Certainly, following last weekend's nonsense drivers are going to think twice. Having watched the race, and the highlights (!) several times over, I still cannot possibly see why Bourdais was punished. It defies belief. On the other hand, I believe Hamilton's first corner move was dumb, as was Massa's a few laps later. But it is the Bourdais penalty that stands out, and once again, with Massa (Ferrari) benefiting from the punishment, the FIA is put in a bad light. This weekend we head to Shanghai, and we all know what happened there twelve months ago. At the risk of alienating readers - or the FIA stewards - might I say that personally, I don't thin k either of the two main title rivals has covered themselves in glory this season, and certainly not in Japan. I only hope that things improve in the next two races and that we get a World Champion we can really look up to, one who genuinely deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as some of the legends who have previously claimed the title. We've two features for you this week, one from Mark Gallagher, who looks at the financial crisis and how it will impact on F1, while Anton Zimmermann tells us who his money is on, in terms of the title fight. I was delighted to have Bob Constanduros back on board in Japan, and I know many of you appreciate his blog, with its alternative view of life on Planet Paddock. I'm hoping he'll be in action again this weekend. We'll be here throughout the weekend, bringing you all the facts, stats, rumours, quotes and pictures as they happen… not to mention the penalties, of which, I am sure, there will be many. Do please join us. Have a good weekend and enjoy the race. Chris Balfe Editor Absolutely everything you need to know about this weekend's China GP - timetable, team previews, circuit details, previous results, 2008 stats, all-time stats... right here Absolutely everything you need to know about last weekend's Japan GP - full result, all session times and reports, individual qualifying times, driver comments, team comments, FIA press conferences, championship standings, fastest race laps, Supergrid, 2008 stats, all-time stats and pictures. .. it's all here! right here Check out the Pitpass forum here "The Japanese Grand Prix saw two drives worthy of someone aiming to win the drivers championship," writes Anton Zimmermann. "Unfortunately neither of those came from the two men at the top of the table. Lewis Hamilton again demonstrated that when the pressure is really on he crumbles, while just when we thought Michael Schumacher's tutelage had smoothed off the rough edges, Massa lost his head in a clumsy move on Hamilton, then managed to hit Bourdais." So who is Anton's money on? more In his latest feature, Mark Gallagher, looks at how the global financial crisis will impact Formula One. "Many people seem to think the supply of money is limitless," he writes, "that cutting costs in any meaningful sense is not ever to be taken seriously. But they need to wake up and look at what's happening all around them. If anyone in Formula One thinks none of this will affect the sport in a significant way, they should think again. If not for the benefit of Formula One, then for the people who work in it. From Sir Frank Williams downwards." more China GP Timetable Session Local Time GMT Fri Practice 1 10:00 - 11:30 03:00 - 04:30 03:00 - 04:30 Fri Practice 2 14:00 - 15:30 07:00 - 08:30 07:00 - 08:30 =0 A Sat Practice 11:00 - 12:00 04:00 - 05:00 04:00 - 05:00 Qualifying 14:00 - 15:00 07:00 - 08:00 07:00 - 08:00 Grand Prix 15:00 - 17:00 08:00 - 10:00 08:00 - 10:00 Check Out Our Japan GP Galleries This Week's Top Headlines -- 2009 French GP cancelled more Amalgam releases 1:8 Monaco winning McLaren more Mosley to reveal 5-year plan for F1 more Hamilton sets the record straight more Speaker to investigate Blair F1 claim more Alonso willing to aid Massa title bid more Dennis: That's what racing drivers do more Williams' gets help from an unlikely ally more It was deliberate claims Hamilton more Blair, Ecclestone, F1 and Tobacco... the truth emerges more Hamilton: I made a mistake I paid for it more Massa denies crash intent more Japan GP in Words, Stats and Pictures more Bob's Fuji Blog (Sunday) more Kubica critical of Hamilton's methods more Bernie loves Max - True XXX more Ecclestone confirms India for 2011 more Montreal government hopes to keep GP more Campaign to save former GP track more Williams man warns manufacturer could quit more Alonso: No decision until after Brazil more China GP Al l you need to know about China 2008... here Japan GP All you need to know about Japan 2008... here To unsubscribe to this newsletter or change the type of newsletter you receive, visit our front page. -- To unsubscribe to this newsletter or change the type of newsletter you receive, visit our front page. www.pitpass.com
