Perhaps I should have read the pre-event posts more carefully rather than
depending upon personal knowledge having participated in the previous event.

Was the purpose not car related comradery?    What's with casinos,
charities and t-shirts and local advertising?   

I was initially disheartened that a more westerly, personally available site 
was not chosen, i.e. within driving distance of Oregon, but not sure now.
