Barstool economics - again

Hi gang,

I've been reading this with interest thinking I'd just read it and stay out of
the "fray". But, best laid plans and all that...

While I fervently agree with Ric and others who concurred with his valid and
rational points of view, I also agree with Mike (somewhat) that we, as a
civilized society, should help those who truly need it. Yes, there are plenty
of freeloaders who should be kicked off the "payroll", but I don't think anyone
ever said that "these people are *ALL* freeloaders" [emphasis added], or that
"they suddenly would become freeloaders". No one ever said that (that I recall
in this discussion) and it's not a rational or logical conclusion. To me (and
sorry if I'm wrong, Mike) it sounds like the statements of a far-left liberal
who simply cannot stand the thought that anyone should benefit from
capitalistic excesses - unless *everyone* can benefit. And, at the risk of
belaboring the points Ric made far more elequently, that's patently unfair to
the folks who *create* the "capitalistic excesses", it goes agains the very
grain of what our society was founded upon - that those who *DO THE WORK*
should realize the benefit. THAT'S what's fair.

While I've never needed public assistance, my wife has. She took the
assistance while she found a job, and then she found a second and third job so
she wouldn't have to go back for more assistance. And then, while working and
raising two kids on her own, she put herself through school and now gets job
offers when she's not even looking (yes, I'm terribly jealous!). So there is a
place for it.

It's the abuse that we must stop. And we must incentivize the recipients to
get off their duffs and work or suffer the consequences of their own actions.
Even if that means they wind up homeless and hungry (as harsh as that may
sound).

Ok, that's my input - my work here is done. :-)

George P.
