Being a former resident of the big D (both of them actually)...

If you want decent Texas BBQ, Dallas is not the place to go, you want to go to Rudy's in Austin, or Countyline BBQ (also in Austin), or Hoopers in hill country. DFW BBQ places are mostly chains. In Dallas there are a few places you have to go to eat... 1. Balls Hamburgers. Best Cheeseburger in the country. Just find it and go there. Makes for a great lunch. The one on Rankin Road is no longer there so go to the one off of Midway and Northwest highway.

2. Three (III) Forks. Make a reservation. Get the Filet. Get the house salad. Everything else is optional. Big Texas steak dining, and I have yet to find a better steak (filet) anywhere else also (and yes I have been to many different places, still looking for the elusive decent steak in Chicago). It was my favorite in DFW. They do business meals really well also.

3. RUF auto-center. Go in test drive a RUF. The guys who run this place are also racers I ran through the DE ranks with Wayne, and Hans is a great guy, if you do stop to ogle the cars, tell them I said hi.

4. Ferrari of Dallas, I have not been there since after they opened their new location... Norwood's, is just a garage, nothing exciting. Lamborghini of Dallas is a nice shop, and they often have interesting cars also. 5. South of Fort Worth you can check out Motorsports Ranch, but that is really only fun if you get some time on the track... January is not the best time to go there though, the Dallas and Fort Worth Arboretum's are great (in the spring), Fossil Rim is cool (if you have the kids along), I suppose you could hit the art museum, but its not world class, the only real tourist spot is where Kennedy was assassinated... If you like overpriced shopping at large malls with insufficient parking than Dallas is you place :)

BR,
Mike

Howdy, all. I'm headed to Dallas Jan 8-11 for a very long meeting over
Fri-Sun, but will be arriving a day early to check out the local BBQ, and
perhaps some of the local car-ish sights. Any suggestions for cool,
must-see/do stuff in DFW area in one afternoon/evening? Doesn't have to be
car-related.

Thanks!

Vty,
