Some time ago, someone posted the the cost of printing ink was a major factor in the recent rash of newspaper closings. Although some special commercial inks are sold by the pound, and are far superior in many ways, newspaper ink is sold by the ton and delivered by big tanker trucks, cheaply so to speak. Ingredients are used motor oil, graphite, and other bonding agents. Believe me, in the overall modern metro newspaper production budget, ink is in the mid to low single digit category. In the old days, and sometimes even now, when you read the paper in the morning with your coffee, did your hands get all inky? That's before a bonding agent called QuickDry was put on the market. That's pretty much solved the problem, or kept the complaints to a minimum. At the Her-Ex, I was responsible for answering all the complaints that came in to the publisher concerning ink transferring from the page to the reader's hands. That really put my (almost <g>) journalism degree to the test. I made up all kinds of excuses, none of the blame went to us of course, instead, I put the blame squarely on the (dirty, ink stained) hands of the lummox who must have been raised in a barn and was getting ink all over her nice new white tablecloth. I politely suggested that the offender use better table hygiene. Sometimes I even scolded the writer for letting her husband, son, or whoever, read the paper at the table instead of engaging in polite conversation. Funny thing, I never heard back on any of them. Go figure . . . Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba In a message dated 1/8/2009 6:52:39 P.M. Central Standard Time, kjtar [at] cox.net writes: Ever hear of 'Deliverance'? Bubba's lucky he keeps to the house as much as he does, heck, he could get reamed easy around them parts. Hey Willi, ever get a cost estimate on printing ink? Maybe Bobbie's lying to us to make payments on his Maserati Quattroporte. Best taken about 5-6 am on a Sunday morning. Tom Reynolds can verify, I think. > > The other one back here that the Shitbox and I love is Hwy 128 from Bismarck to Hot Springs, AR. At over 20 miles, it winds up and down thru pine forests and fields, it's not unlike the old Nurburgring. The only thing missing is the castle ruins and the ghost of Peter Collins who died at the Pflanzgarten in the1958 German GP while driving his Dino 246 for the Old Man. > > BTW, I ran a set of Pirelli Stelvios on my Austin Healey 100S back in the day.
