Re: Govt Response to the Recession OT NFC

Hi Ken -
The report by Caruba was interesting - of course, he's saying the same things this and other lists have been saying for a while. Things like the government is responsible for the mess we're in - and those same people are doing things that will continue to make the mess escalate. I also liked his comment about the obama admin looking to FDRs failed responses to the depression to get us out of this mess. It seems the democrats determination to keep FDR on a pedestal will never cease - they keep thinking his New Deal was a success when it was WW2 that "saved" us. Now we have the new deal of the FDR social security Ponzi scheme slowly strangling the economy.

If only our elected officials would listen to the outpouring of public dissent - of course, they don't feel that's their job. They prefer to open their pockets widely and shovel the $$s in.

It should be quickly seen that the planned tax and spend method of economic recovery will fail flat on its face. Hopefully.

Finally, Mr Caruba's final sentence summed things well <<the odds that the White House and Congress will find a sensible, measured, and responsible way to cure the current financial crisis, the smart money is on zero.>>

Unfortunately.
Sincerely,
Larry T (74 911, 91 300D 2.5T)

Taxes will never go down. Our country is broke, but expensive new
measures will continue to be introduced, the sole purpose of which is
to ensure the authors retain political office. If you doubt me please
review the pork sandwich passed yesterday by the weasels on both sides
of the Senate aisle. Further elucidation here:

Round, like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel.
Never ending or beginning,
On an ever spinning wheel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnaval balloon
Like a carousell that's turning
Running rings around the moon

Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on it's face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

That's all I know about wheels! k

Around here in CT they just adjust the mill rate to stay revenue

We get appraised every 5 years and this time they want to see how
many protest the new valuations before they set the new mill rate.

My property taxes have gone up for 20 straight years.

Well, they DO go down if they're based on %-value of your home, and
your home value plummets (cough - 'housing bubble' - cough). The re-
assessment adjusters are gonna be busy this winter....here in
Taxachussets, home values have dropped AND here in Worcester the
Property tax has actually dipped a few pennies.

On the wheel note, BBS had a nice gold mesh-spoke wheel available
(would need refinishing, but a full set turns up on ebay fairly
often for not-much $$$), and Nick's Forza also has a set available
for the TRX-shod cars....not a fan of the Nick's Forza design, but
it does fit and offers a 'lip' if you like that in a wheel (which I
do). I just don't care for the spoke design. I believe Nick's
Forza does NOT need a wheel spacer, whereas SuperPerformance's
wheels do (but are included with-purchase).

That's always the key question isn't it? Two things about property
taxes: they never go down and they never go away.

What would the property tax as a percent of market value on a
home? If
it's lower than your federal tax sheltered state income tax plus
your sales
and property tax in your old state, you come out ahead.

Sorry not trying hijack.

Having attempted such a similar thing myself, one finds out that NH
may not
have sales taxes, they have a KILLER property tax. One that's
higher than
MA's. As a result, some of my friends are reverse-migrating to MA
just to
get away from NH taxes.

Regarding wheels, some of my local 308 cohorts have purchased the
SuperPerformance repro-rims for the 308 and love them in price and
looks, which
allow for 16" tire selection without the Four-Digit $$$ outlay for
OEM 308
QV/328 rims. Oh, and the SuperPerformance rim purchase also
includes free OEM
Wheel Center Caps.....normally a $150 extra cost.

Same thing has happened in New Hampshire with all the people moving
up from
Mass. To lower their taxes. They get there and start clamoring for
all of the
programs and taxes they wanted to get away from.

The GPS thing is something that Gov. Taxngougeski wants. I doubt
it will pass, but you never know.

This used to be an ultra conservative state, but ever since the
Kalifornicators
have been moving here, it's getting more like SanFran every day.

Ditto Robert.

The TRX metric 390 are VERY expensive, and not worth it considering
the less expensive - and superior - alternatives available.

There are some decent alum 16" repros available.

Original wheels are 14" five spoke silver with raised Ferrari

I wouldn't get the 390's, simply due to the tire
selection. The tires on
those wheels are probably 20 years old. Check the date code, if
they have
one.
