On Porsches: (The RS America would be my 3rd or 4th choice: a 71 911 or the RS version would be #1).

Since I have driven just about every generation 911 (and owned none of them :) I can chime in here:

1971-73 911 (the one with the little duck tale and the ~150 hp motor) -> As much fun as an E30 M3 when the suspension is dialed in. Truly an enthusiasts car. If I was going to go racing in a Porsche this is about the only one I would seriously consider. A good one is quite expensive. 930 (well they called these a 911) turbo... Seriously fast, this was the one that would kill you just as soon look at you. TTOS (Trailing Throttle OverSteer). I know a few folks that raced these and they were always driving them at 7/10ths since the car would really bite you if you lifted or even just maintained a steady throttle through a corner. The turbo's made for some interesting mid corner corrections. Great car if you are into base jumping...

(964?) 911 RS America. This one is also seriously fast, had less TTOS, and is a joy to drive. Also these are very expensive in almost any condition that is driveable. 993. Last of the air cooled ones, and really the last one someone should consider getting. I am not a fan though they drive well and with some significant suspension upgrades (monballs and hard bushings everywhere) will handle well also. The 993 TT is an iconic car.

996. Handles OK, under steers like a Chevy Malibu. Personally I have never enjoyed driving one of these, except for the GT3 variant which is scare you quick.

For the $$$ to fun ratio I'd say find yourself a nice condition 986 Boxster. You won't find a car that handles better, is better sorted, has no mechanical problems, or is as much fun to drive for the money this side of a Miata. The 987 is a bit quicker I guess, but not noticeably so. The Cayman is pretty special also, though I have only drive one on the street, and its pricing against the better equiped convertible Boxster forces me to look somewhere else.

Rodney, private post, but just remembered something I wanted to share with
you. '93 or '94 Porsche 911 RSAmerica (964). There's a good website and
I've corresponded with the author, can't remember the URL right now, but
just type in "RSAmerica" in Google and it should be one of the topmost
results. Site dedicated to the RSAmerica and it also has (or had...)
classified ads for cars.
Kind regards,

Usually while driving stupid, closing my eyes or turning off my headlights
on really dark roads will scare me senseless and I "might" slow down... LOL

Speaking of speed and driving fast, I was wondering how others deal

the phenonom of how driving at a high speed for a long period of time
makes
the brain see any lower speed as incredibly slow.
