Steve,

Too late for me. I started worshiping them at age 11 when Enzo Ferrari wrote me back. I was also born on the day Dino Ferrari died......... Technically I should have never been able to even own a Ferrari, it was the culmination of a 30 year dream. I used to go to car shows and get almost physically ill because I lusted after one so bad. I remember the first one I ever saw in front of a fancy Italian eatery in San Francisco. I remember getting down on my knees in front of the grill and nose badge and staring at the front of the car, the grill, the headlight covers, the hood. I think it was 330 or 400 Superfast. I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of this thing that I have never recovered. To me it is more like a religion.

I can understand someone not understanding my passion, but to me it is very clear. Of course the Ferrari is not as important as a loved one, however I have spent so many hours with its little parts in my hands. To me it is art, made by the same breed of craftsmen that created the Pieta, the Colosseum, The Pantheon, Tivoli Gardens, Caligula's Pleasure Barge (just kidding on that last one) . Every time I have taken it apart it works when I put it back together (thanks Steve, Ric and all the rest of you that have helped me). It always starts and it has never let me down, something I cant say for many of my human companions! :-) I guess my quote of Signor Ferrari below sums it up for me. I guess maybe if I had lots of money or many Ferrari's I might feel different but I will imagine that most of you who have met me would guess I would still have this same overwhelming passion that cannot be explained by mere words.

A lady that reads past lives whom i had never met once told me I was a roman solder on Hadrian's wall. What is weird is that I had started collecting an entire historically Roman solders outfit over the last 15 years. I will wear it this weekend at the local Renaissance Faire...... it always pisses of the Scots!!

While I wouldn't loan my Ferrari(s) to students had I been a teacher in his position, my 25 year old son drives the Ferrari when he was in college and came home on his spring or fall break and it doesn't phase me a bit. I remember what I would have been like if we had a Ferrari in the family when I was his age and cannot imagine my father telling me not to drive it. While he is what we used to call a "Goat Roper" and now teaches agriculture in a high school in TX, and if I asked him which vehicle he would like to take home with him the F-350 4x4 might edge out the Ferrari at any given time, what difference
does it matter.

Gentlemen, these are automobiles. Fine automobiles, I'll give you that, but still just an automobile. They can be replaced with an "in kind" substitute if
necessary, and there are competent shops that can make any necessary
repairs. I would be concerned about injury but then again, WWDHD [what would Dad have done] at that age, do exactly as I suspect he does, drive it like you stole it, just obey the law and don't get any tickets. In fact, that is the only guidance I give him whether it is a Ferrari, an ATV or a PWC. In the end he is as responsible as I have asked and educated him to be so I am responsible for his actions in some secondary way should some adverse event occur. And he is 25 years old, and while I don't think that there is an exclusion on my insurance policy I can't imagine it being anything less than 21 years old and in any event even Hertz used to rent their GT500's to people his current age.

Drive the car, don't worship it.

Dr. Steve
