The History Channel runs a series called "Modern Marvels"  - the program 
called "Autobahn" will be on again this evening (Fri) at 7PM Eastern time.

The opening has a RUF Porsche 911 going to the limit - evidently German 
tuners must certify the top speed advertised will actually be met.

Hmm.. where do I apply for *that* job? ;-)

They also have video of a SL flipping over several times from high speed. 
When the Mercedes stopped rolling the occupants crawled out and staggered to 
a nearby hill.  When he catches his breath, Bob may say something like, 
"Great rollbar.  Not so great suspension." Bob mused.

Anyway - they go over the history and construction of the highway as well as 
the controls in place and police coverage.  BTW, tickets are based on the 
drivers income.  (So, I guess poor people can drive really fast and pay 
really small tickets?) ;-p

It's a interesting program well worth watching -- IMO at least.
