My point was, "Necessity" is already here. Didn't Bush already propose identical CAFE standards similar to what Obama has proposed, years ago? The issue isn't whether the standard is needed, but only when it is implemented (and whether it is technically feasible in the time alotted). Fourteen States, and the DOC, wanted an even-higher number. Obama's number might be one MPG less than Bush's number? I believe the primary issue at-hand is whether the industry climate exists to provide the ROI that companies require to provide the technology to meet the new standard. The market success of Alternative-Energy vehicles and Oil Market instability would indicate that it is. The next Engineering team that solves this puzzle will be very wealthy - "Go and Do..."
