If you want a Chrysler now would be a great time. If some dealers are offering cars half off sticker then that's the best you will ever do. Forget invoice, forget asking for half of holdback, etc. They are losing $$ to move them. Small losses now are better than big loses in less than 30 days. I'd ask to see the invoice on whatever car you are looking at, plus ask how much their holdback is (on a GM truck it's $1,400.00) and compare that to whatever # they give you and see how good their price is.

All the BMW's sold for too much!

Thx for the explanation, Brian -- would this be a good time to buy a Chrysler? Are there any particular tactics that would help get the best deal?

Did you pick up some BMWs?

The factory mentality is that fewer dealers selling more cars is better
than more dealers selling fewer cars per dealership. Consolidation.
Right now the dealers that have had their franchises pulled have 30 days
from the time they received their franchise termination letter to clear
out all of their new inventory. After 30 days Chrysler (as an example)
will no longer offer the terminated dealers the (up to) $6,000 rebates
per vehicle they now are allowing, nor the 0% financing to the end
buyer. So after 30 days the new Chrysler inventory will become
literally unsalable. AND Chrysler will not reimburse dealers for any
new buildings or body shop / repair equipment that they were forced to
build nor will they buy back any parts that the dealer will have to sell
retail in order to get their money back (since they can no longer
perform warranty work and be reimbursed by the manufacturer).

Here are a couple of interesting articles I just came by ...

A Chrysler LLC executive said Thursday if the company's sale of most of
its operations to Fiat SpA isn't approved by bankruptcy court, all 3,181
of its remaining dealers will face elimination. Steven J. Landry,
Chrysler's executive vice president for North American marketing said,
"The auto industry cannot support the number of dealers in the
marketplace."

What happens to those cars after they close? Some other dealers have to soak

assume.

I was wondering the same thing.

I think it has to to with the cost of credit. The MFR is financing all
the cars sitting on a dealer's lot. So, by reducing the number of
dealers, they are reducing the number of cars sitting on lots unsold
that the MFR has to finance.

I read the ones being closed were not necessarily weak or failing -
they

Something like 61% of the dealrships sold a small % of the total
sales. So
those are being closed.

Does anyoneelse wonder why closing sales outlets are a good thing?
Does it
cost Chrysler money to wholesale a car to a dealership?

Maybe it's different than I think - which is - a dealership *pays*
for the
privilidge of buying cars at a reduced rate so they can turn around
and
resell them to the public.

How does closing the stores that are selling cars *save* money?
Does it
cost Chrysler money to have those "lower performing" stores open?

Inferring from the letter, it sounds like he had a successful
dealership
even in the bad economy and had it ripped away and given to another
dealership. I thought only the weak & failing dealers were supposed
to be
folded.

This is just a guess: the franchise agreement (or whatever the
relevant
contract might be called between the dealer and Chrysler)
presumably says
that Chrysler may, on something like 30 days' notice, freely
terminate a
dealer's franchise.

I'm not saying it's a humane way to treat a dealer, and as I said
it's
just a guess.
