Ferrari Mailing List: Hubcaps on F1 cars?

Hi All - 
    What's the deal with those odd looking hubcaps on this years F1 car's 
wheels?   Are they aerodynamic aids - like the wheelcovers used on the 80s era 
Porsche 956/962's?

    BTW, the commentators are saying this may be the last year for Silverstone 
- that would be a shame -
