You may be right, but at least from the top view, it looks like engine
lid starts tapering much closer to the doors than on the 360 or 430. It
looks like there's still enough width behind the front windows to match
the width of the roof, but you'd be covering a good deal of the motor to
do that. I guess if they shrunk the size of the glass in the engine lid
more toward the back of the car it could work.
 
I'm more wondering whether in Luca's mind a Spider version might
cannibalize California sales or whether the two car's missions are
different enough to have room for two open cars in the lineup.

 Seems like this would be a really hard car to do a spider version on.
Did you say the same thing after seeing the 360 Modena (coupe)?
I don't think this would pose any biger problem than the 360 or 430
Spiders did.
