A friend of mine had a similar problem with his truck - he had allowed the
little round seal from a additives bottle to fall into the tank - it would
float around and get sucked against the feed pipe to the engine. The engine
would stall and then restart! He replaced all kinds of stuff - just like
you did.
Those kinds of problems happen once in a while and take forever to find... LarryT OilAnalysis Time? Hi All, Not necessarily Ferrari - but the root cause could happen to any vehicle...... As an FYI - I was having trouble with my 78 JeepCJ5(258, 4bbl Holley)running fine then dying randomly. Well, I finally sorted everything out andthe root cause had two components: 1) the distributor rotor had somehow spun on the keyed shaft, thus throwing the spark out of whack, and mostimportantly....2) the gas tank had rusted inside, creating gobs of goo thatwould randomly get sucked into the fuel pickup screen and plug the pickup tube, thus causing the stall - when the car died, the pickup lost suction and the goo fell off, thus allowing a quick restart, followed by another stall. Thus, I replaced many parts not necessarily needing it(but after 32 yearsprobably wise) - HEI controller, battery, fuel pump, carb(which also had gooin both bowls). All I really needed to do was replace the rotor/cap, tank(with a new aftermarket plastic tank) and fuel pickup screen. I am now plowing the fresh Colorado Champaign powder with ease :)Since we all have steel gas tanks, this is just another tool in the Ferraritroubleshooting box......
